LAP shelve their plans for Granville...
14/04/2009
Friends of Brixton Market are pleased that London and Associated Properties (LAP) have listened to the people of Brixton and the traders of Brixton market. Though we have received no formal information from LAP about their decision, we understand they are withdrawing their intention to apply to knock down Granville Arcade.
We look forward to hearing what LAP's plans are to renovate and invest in the market, and hope they will start to work with the community to develop sensitive solutions that benefit the market.
For now at least, it seems the redevelopment threat to Granville is on hold. Well done everyone who leafleted, publicised, talked about it.
The next step is for the DCMS to list Granville. Their decision is due in the summer.
More residents and customers are joining FBM, getting involved with developing projects and relationships with the council and other groups to support a bright new future for the market. Join us!
